May 2016 ushered in the annual Courageous Persuaders Awards Celebration, an exciting event celebrated by many students, teachers and supporters. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors and the astounding creativity of high school students, the 2016 competition was another national event. As guests arrive to show off their threads on the red carpet, Joanie Rizzio, freelance writer/editor, had the chance to interview the hopeful persuaders.
As if the students, presenters and sponsors weren’t already celebrities in their own right, the entire awards show will air throughout the year on participating community access cable stations and in Secretary of State offices across Michigan. The DADA Education Foundation and State Farm had a step and repeat banner, where photos were posted via social media. Materials were also passed out from MCRUD.
Creators of the winning spots received over $28,000 in scholarships from the Detroit Auto Dealers Association (DADA), State Farm, the Lindsey Renee Cianciolo Family Memorial Fund, the Adcraft Club of Detroit, Michelin, AutoTrader, the Harold and Carolyn Robison Foundation, the Michigan Film and Media Digital Media Office, and the College for Creative Studies (CCS). The grand prize-winning commercial will be broadcast on television after the students finalize upgrades for on-air production at Pluto Post Productions.
